Reliable charging at an iconic location
At the TT Circuit Assen, everything revolves around speed, innovation and experience. This applies not only on the asphalt, but also beyond. To provide visitors, teams and employees with optimal facilities, the charging plaza in Assen has recently been expanded with Ecotap Duo charging stations, fully in line with the circuit’s recognisable corporate identity. We spoke with Reinier van Lacum (Manager Technical Department TT Circuit Assen) and Joost Riekhoff (Business Development Ecotap) about this project at an iconic location.
TT Circuit Assen is the iconic motorsport circuit in the Netherlands. Reinier van Lacum explains: “The circuit welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. The TT is the main event and attracts by far the largest audience. But in fact, the circuit is alive all year round with numerous activities. Innovation is essential in this regard: to stay ahead of other international circuits and to take steps towards sustainability wherever possible. For example, electric driving and the testing of electric motors are also being considered.”
Electric charging
TT Circuit Assen had already been using Ecotap charging stations for electric charging for around ten years. Van Lacum: ‘We were so pleased with these charging stations that when it came to expanding, we immediately wanted to use Ecotap again. The pleasant discussions, short lines of communication and way of working together were a good fit with our requirements. That gave us the confidence to choose Ecotap again.’
Duo charging stations
The circuit deliberately chose charging stations that are as versatile as possible. Van Lacum: ‘We wanted not only visitors’ cars to be able to charge at our charging station, but also electric motorcycles that ride on the circuit. The Duo is suitable for sports and the public, with two connections per charging station. That makes the solution flexible and future-proof.’
Wishes and requirements
Flexibility therefore played a major role in the choice of the Duo (22 kW AC). ‘But the charging stations also had to fit in with our image and identity,’ says Van Lacum. ‘That’s why the charging points are white and feature our own branding, fully in keeping with the circuit and the surroundings. Very modern!’
From installation to daily use
Van Lacum found the collaboration with Ecotap to be very positive. ‘There was good consultation and clear advice. I found that agreements were really honoured. Personally, I find that very important. In addition, the installation was carried out by a skilled party. So you could say that we were completely taken care of. The process was truly turnkey.’ Daily use is also running smoothly, says Van Lacum. ‘In all that time, we’ve only had one malfunction, and it was resolved quickly and adequately.’
Proud
Van Lacum is particularly proud of the overall picture. ‘We now have a charging plaza that is technically sound, looks sleek and fits in perfectly with this iconic location.’ Joost Riekhoff of Ecotap also looks back on the project with pride: ‘I found the collaboration very pleasant. And the end result is impressive! A charging facility that moves with the times and fits in perfectly with the TT Circuit Assen, both in terms of content and appearance.’
